There's a quote from Dorothea Lange that I've come to live by: "Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still."

I've never thought of photography as merely taking pictures. To me, each photograph is a single suspended frame carrying a story that only our eyes were privileged to witness. And though an image is, by its nature, something we can only see, I believe the right photograph transcends sight entirely, awakening every sense at once. If a photograph cannot do that, then it is not a photograph at all.
